The Clothing Reconstruction Workshop is a daylong community gathering at which participants will explore creative clothing reuse and recycling.

The Swap Bring at least one bag of your clean, unwanted clothing and a small donation. We are suggesting $5 to help cover the expenses of the organizers and to allow us to pay the Progressive Center for opening the space to us. Every swap begins with giant collective piles of clothing contributed by attendees. Then, everyone is permitted to dive in and select "new" items. Who knows? You may find your next favorite pants or party dress. Take as little or as much clothing from these piles as you like. Since you contributed clothing to the pile, you can scavenge for new, free items with a clear conscience.

The Projects If you need a little help deciding where to start, you can use the project sheets volunteers will have on hand. Created by locals, each sheet will include a list of materials and instructions. All materials needed for the projects can be found in the swap or in the studio.

The Studio You'll find designers with sewing machines ready to teach you how to simply modify or totally transform your new/used duds. Or you might try the hand-sew area and decoration station where you can learn to embroider, knit, crochet, etc. All the materials you need to bead, fix, repair, knit etc., are supplied.

The Runway Near the end of the day, you'll be invited to show off your fantastic finds or new creations. All who wish to participate are welcome to strut down the runway and show their stuff.

Free Labels for Relabeling Before you incorporate your new recycled clothes into your day-to-day wardrobe, please consider rebranding the items with a new label. By removing or replacing the previous branding, you celebrate the Do-It-Yourself community’s collective creativity rather than the brand of a corporation. Besides, the item is now something unique! It deserves to represent your creativity down to the very last detail.
